Some governorship aspirants on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, stormed Abuja on Monday to protest over what they called the imposition of candidate on them by the PDP leadership in Katsina State.
According to Vanguard newspaper report, among those that protested in Abuja were former Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Sen. Ibrahim Ida, Alhaji Tukur Jikamshi, Alhaji Gide Yar’Adua, Alhaji Ahmed Yar’Adua, Alhaji Kabiru Barkiye and Alhaji Mohammed Khalil.
It was gathered that the aspirants informed the National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP that the party would lose the state in 2015 if an unpopular candidate was imposed on the people. They also intimidated the PDP leadership that though Katsina State was a stronghold of the PDP in the North West zone, it was also the home state of leading members of the opposition party.
“Therefore, for the party to succeed in the 2015 general elections, it must field a popular and acceptable candidate,’’ Ida said.
The aspirants concluded by urging the PDP National Chairman to send a fact finding team to Katsina to establish the true state of affairs of the party in the state.
Ahead the 2015 general elections, there have been reports of crisis in PDP camps across the country.
Only on Monday, some political thugs were reported to have attacked the PDP secretariat in Oyo State.
Though no one was reported to have died during the attack, the spokesman of the party in the state was said to have barely escaped been killed by the hoodlums.
