Reports had earlier surfaced that Buhari opted for Osinbajo,
a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State,
because he is a pastor of the Redeemed Church, with hopes that his
Christian congregants will vote for him in the 2015 presidential
election.
Buhari was declared the winner of the APC presidential primaries held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, western Nigeria, on December 10-11, 2014.
The issue of who becomes his running mate has caused quite a stir. It was previously reported that it was tearing the party apart as the APC governors and Tinubu were believed to be at loggerheads over the choice of Buhari’s running mate.
A meeting aimed at choosing the Vice Presidential candidate for the APC held in Abuja was said to have hit a deadlock.
Osinbajo, beat other potential candidates that reportedly included Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Governor Fashola of Lagos State, among so many other speculation.
Osinbajo pastors at Olive Tree House of Prayer for All Nations, Banana Island, a parish of the RCCG and lives in Lagos with his wife and three children.
He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Senior Partner in the Law firm of Simmons Cooper Partners. He has served as a staff member of the United Nations and Member of the United Nation’s Secretary General’s Committee of Experts on Conduct and Discipline of UN Peacekeeping personnel around the globe.
