5 Tactics to Drive Website Traffic That Aren't SEO

http://img.youtube.com/vi/eYWCUGmGuss/0.jpg [ad_1]

Although all businesses with an online presence should invest in search engine optimization, it isn't the end-all, be-all when it comes to driving traffic to a professional website.

It's no surprise that driving traffic to your website is the key to higher conversions and increased revenue. After all, if people aren't visiting your business online, they certainly won't be completing ecommerce purchases.

However, it seems as though every business in 2018 has gone all-in on search engine optimization (SEO) to increase traffic to websites.

Now, SEO is an effective digital growth strategy. Google alone drove 72 percent of all global desktop search traffic to websites in the past year, according to Net Marketshare. However, as the internet grows and more companies continue fighting to rank No. 1 for the same keywords, the odds of ranking and driving enough traffic dwindle. Therefore, it's in brands' best interest to explore other ways of increasing site traffic.

Before marketers implement a new site traffic campaign, they should first take stock of their current traffic and analytics. Use tools such as Google Analytics and SEMRush to determine where your traffic is coming from, how long users are exploring your site, the web pages and content they enjoy the most, and when during their user journey they typically leave your site. Access to this information will empower you to create a better, stronger strategy on the channels we'll be exploring and improve your potential click-through rates.

Then, you can increase website traffic with these five strategies:

1. Start guest blogging.

Guest blogging on other websites achieves several goals. Firstly, it adds a boost of PR and improves your credibility as an expert in your industry and the public space. It increases brand awareness and exposes your company to new potential customers. And, as a little bonus, it does increase SEO rankings through its links back to your site (although it still isn't the point of this article ...).

To guest blog effectively, find businesses and websites to partner with that share a target audience and/or industry and receive enough traffic themselves to make it worthwhile. If your business has a blog, you can also interview other applicable industry experts and encourage the interviewees and their companies to share the interviews on social media and their press pages.

Ask them their monthly metrics, what calls to action pointing to your website you'll be allotted and if they will post your article on their social media channels. And speaking of social media ...

2. Invest in social media.

Social media is an ever-growing market for online businesses. After all, according to Sprout Social, social media directly influences 74 percent of consumers' buying decisions. Various social media platforms can act as both a brand builder, which will influence long-term brand loyalty and traffic, as well as immediate click-throughs and traffic.

Make sure you're posting on the social networks your demographic is active on -- some quick market research will make this crystal clear. In addition, don't rely on organic postings. Unfortunately, many social media algorithms drive business posts to the bottom of newsfeeds and require companies to pay to promote. However, paid social media such as Facebook Ads are one of the cheapest forms of online advertising and can provide a strong return on investment if executed well -- the key is finding a great social media marketing company to create an effective strategy.

3. Utilize email marketing.

Although there's some discrepancy as to the exact return on investment email marketing provides, sources all agree that it's one of the most useful marketing tools and provides a high return on investment. Brands can promote products, services or even content marketing initiatives with a simple email blast or newsletter.

To maximize email marketing benefits, try A/B testing, segmenting and personalization. These tactics will foster a more personal relationship between you and your customers, help you determine the content and subject lines they prefer, and send your emails when your subscribers are most likely to both open them and engage with them.

4. Integrate video content.

Video is an extremely effective yet underused form of content marketing. Although many businesses focus on blogs and Instagram followers, for example, video initiatives receive high numbers of shares and views. According to HubSpot's State of Video Marketing report, 76 percent of marketers say that video content has increased traffic to their website.

Shaving startup Harry's has a great example of engaging video marketing. This short video introduces consumers to the brand, sets a lighthearted and playful tone, and informs potential customers about the company's origins in an engaging snapshot. The company smartly embedded it directly on its website as well as shared it on social media.

There are plenty of videos you can include in this strategy, including brand videos, short social media clips, advertisements, informational, about and demonstrations. What's more, if it fits your brand, go a step further and offer webinars. This will digitally engage customers, provide high value to consumers and even give you the chance to collect emails, which can help you with step three above.

5. Advertise online.

While organic, non-paid strategies that drive traffic are every brand's dream, sometimes, you just can't beat advertising. Luckily, we've moved past the days of billboards and Mad Men campaigns. Instead, look to unique advertising tactics such as retargeting and remarketing.

According to ReTargeter, only 2 percent of websites convert on the first visit. Both retargeting and remarketing rely on cookies, which are dropped on browsers, to follow users around the web. Retargeting then serves consumers ads for your website, encouraging them to revisit the destination. Meanwhile, remarketing sends users a curated email based on their activity on your website.

Although search engine optimization is effective and all businesses with an online presence should invest in it, SEO isn't the end-all, be-all when it comes to driving traffic to a professional website. By investing in social media, guest blog posts, regular email marketing, video content and digital advertising, you'll be sure to increase site traffic without the outright competition that comes with SEO keywords.

How to Reduce Production Costs by Using Digital Backgrounds

https://upcity.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/digital-backgrounds.jpg [ad_1]

In addition to guest posting on the UpCity blog, Spotburner is featured as one of the Top Video Production Companies in Los Angeles. Check out their profile here.

As many videographers know, we now have access to the same technology that the big movie studios use to create virtual sets and imaginary worlds.

Video production has grown exponentially in the last five years as online video has become the number one strategy for attracting brand engagement online. The tools to create these videos have become easier to use, ranging from HD phones with great editing apps to smaller high-quality video cameras.

One type of organic video that has become popular in the past few years is user-generated content. It is now a large part of the millions of videos that are posted online. They are often spontaneous without much consideration for the background because “UGC” videos are all about the subject and the action. One article by Entrepreneur details this strategy in more detail, sharing that social proof is a much more compelling sales proposition than alternative forms of “selling”.

digital sets

An example of a green screen and how different backgrounds can be used on a digital set.

If you want to create videos that require a setting that you don’t have access to, a digital set might be the answer. Digital sets are not nearly as complicated to create as you may think. If you have a high-resolution photograph of the background you would like to have for your video, that image can be super-imposed into a video file, which is called “keying” or “compositing”.

Most types of editing software include an application that allows for keying. This process typically begins by shooting the video against a solid, well lit, green screen background. Then, in the editing process, the green is keyed-out and the image replaces the green in the editing timeline.

A great example of a video produced on green screen can be seen above. If the subject of your video is green (think about shooting a tennis ball) or needs to wear green, just pick a background color that will not be in the shot and use that color to key-out. Blue is very common, but we have even shot on a pink background because our subject was both green and blue!

Lighting is very important when using digital backgrounds. The background must be lit evenly, without any shadows. Once this is accomplished, it is time to light the subject.

The main light on the subject is what we often refer to in production as the “Key Light”. There are often one to three lights to obtain good lighting on the subject, with the objective of achieving even lighting, without looking artificial. A “Backlight” (usually behind and above the subject) is a light that is also essential to lighting a green screen subject for a shoot like this. The backlight defines the subject from the green screen and creates a separation, so that when the green is replaced with a digital set, the integration of the two elements looks seamless.

If you want to shoot a video at a lake with a mountain background but are located in the city, you can accomplish the project using the same techniques as the big studios with the right equipment and a little practice. Keep your subject separated from the green screen background with proper lighting and experiment with software that facilitates digital keying and your video production capabilities will greatly expand!

A final example of how this technology can be used is to create a setting that does not exist in “real life”.

This music video produced by our studio for Steve Aoki and Tiësto shows how you can place people or objects into new and creative environments. Thanks to the power of digital backgrounds, your options for business and marketing videos are now nearly limitless!

Telemarketing Scammer Sentenced - High Paying Affiliate Programs

[ad_1]

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced that an individual who allegedly managed a multimillion dollar fraudulent telemarketing scam was sentenced to approximately 5 years in prison by a federal judge in Nevada and ordered to pay $2.7 in restitution. The monetary component is intended to reflect victim losses from the scheme.

The defendant pleaded guilty in December 2017 to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud based on his alleged role in managing a telemarketing operation that, according to the DOJ, defrauded thousands of victims out of millions of dollars. The victims included elderly individuals. A co-defendant was sentenced earlier this year to 87 months in prison.

“This case demonstrates the Department of Justice’s commitment to prosecuting scammers who defraud elderly Americans,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Chad A. Readler of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “We will continue to take every step possible to prosecute perpetrators of elder fraud scams and deliver justice for victims.”

“Seniors and caregivers should be alert to and mindful of these types of scams. Criminals who prey on and steal from seniors will face prosecution and be brought to justice,” said U.S. Attorney Dayle Elieson for the District of Nevada. “If someone believes they or someone they know is a victim of elder fraud, they should report it to the FTC at 1-877-FTC-HELP. The Department of Justice provides a variety of resources relating to elder fraud victimization through its Office of Victims of Crime, which can be reached at www.ovc.gov.”

According to court documents , the defendant managed the alleged fraudulent telemarketing operation for his co-defendant, who controlled the operation. The DOJ alleges that telemarketers working for the two falsely represented to victims that they had won one of numerous valuable prizes, including a Chevy Camaro, a Boston Whaler boat, a diamond-and-sapphire bracelet, $3,000 in cash, or a cruise that could be exchanged for thousands in cash. To claim the prize, consumers were informed that they had to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars. Once they did so, according to the DOJ, victims received worthless costume jewelry, or nothing.

The Department of Justice also alleges that individuals that made an initial payment were sometimes called again, and misled into believing they had won an even more valuable prize, in a process called “loading” or “reloading,” which could be repeated multiple times. The DOJ alleges that this process caused victims to lose thousands of dollars.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Readler commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. He also thanked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)’s civil enforcement action that resulted in the shutdown of the defendants’ telemarketing operation and for the FTC’s assistance during the criminal investigation and prosecution.

In 2013, the Federal Trade Commission obtained an injunction appointing a receiver and freezing the assets of one of the defendants, an alleged repeat offender, whom the agency first stopped from making deceptive telemarketing pitches 15 years ago.

According to the FTC, based on the role of one of the defendants in an earlier film investment scheme, in 1998 a federal district court entered an order permanently banning him from engaging in telemarketing and prohibiting him from making material misrepresentations about any product or service. In addition to the order, the FTC had obtained a prior order in 1996 against the defendant in connection with a business opportunity scam, and he has also been the subject of enforcement actions by other federal agencies.

It’s Time to Take on AI and Here’s Why

[ad_1]

Elon Musk, the closest thing this world has to an evil corporate genius, is spending near a billion dollars to stop the advance of A.I. He’s not the only influential person warning the world of a future “Skynet” takeover. You’ve got Stephen Hawking, Eric Schmidt, and even Bill Gates whose former company, Microsoft, is working on plenty of A.I. projects.

But I’m here to say to all of them #notallA.I. The A.I. I’m about to reference won’t ever be capable of turning your computer against you, boiling you with your smart thermostat, or calling the cops on you through your security system.

At least it couldn’t spontaneously do those things. Someone would have to program it to do those things.

A.I. for business is probably the most useful thing to come along since the invention of e-mail. So, let’s talk about why your online business should take on A.I.

1. More Customer Centric Search

Google has been using natural language processing in their search engine for years. Today, Google is so good at knowing what you’re going to search for that it completes your sentences. Google is essentially one massive bot that “reads” your mind.

What if you could bring even a fraction of that power to your own business’ online search? Twiggle has found a way to do that for e-commerce businesses.

The bot uses natural language processing similar to the technology found in Google’s search engine. It narrows down and contextualizes search results for you customers so they find what they’re looking for faster.

2. Improve Your Website With AI

There are hundreds of WordPress plugins out there. And most people only use a handful.

But what if you could plug something into your website that could (almost) think for itself? What could it do?

It could continually monitor your SEO and improve your schema markup and at the same time improve indexability. It would save you a ton of time.

And it exists today. WordLift can actually increase traffic, conversion rates, and page views just by monitoring your site.

3. Follow Up With Leads Without Wasting Time

Sales teams fail to follow up with about 33% of all leads. That’s a massive marketing fail. And even when they do follow up, half those leads are a waste of time anyway.

Why are you paying people to fail at something when a bot could do it more efficiently for cheaper. What if you could feed all of your customer data into a computer and then have that computer reach out to real leads?

That’s how a business could potentially use AI. They could cut down on waste and bring in more customers at the same time.

Conclusion: Be Prepared

Get ready for the machine takeover, people. It’s going to be more interesting and wonderful than we could have ever dreamed.

Sure, it’s happening slowly around us. Right now, only 15% of enterprises are even using A.I. but that number is slated to double in the next year. As we find more uses for machine learning, our jobs are going to become much easier.

98 Percent of VC Funding Goes to Men. Can Women Entrepreneurs Change a Sexist System?

[ad_1]

Last year, the largest VC deal for a female team was $165 million -- a stark contrast to that for males, which was $3 billion.

12 min read

It was January 2017. A 26-year-old Nadia Genevieve Masri made her way up to the second floor office of a venture capital fund in San Francisco. She was there to ask for $500,000.

Masri already had four startups under her belt, and she was raising her first round of VC funding for Perksy, a market research company targeting millennial and Gen-Z audiences. She knew market research was a $45 billion industry and that there was no leading mobile solution -- meaning companies like Pepsi were spending well over $50 million per year without certainty of directly reaching younger generations. Masri’s idea: an app where, in exchange for rewards at companies like Nordstrom, Sephora, Delta and Netflix, users would answer stacks of focused questions from brands on their likes, dislikes and views on current events.

Masri had done the research: She knew her service was unique, that companies would pay for it and that, with the right capital, she could deliver promising results. But the men sitting across the table weren’t sold, telling Masri she was too early -- that they wanted to “see how this goes.”

Self-doubt lingered in the back of Masri’s mind: It’s probably just me. It’s probably just the way I’m communicating this. Nevertheless, she kept plugging away, raising $250,000 in a friends and family funding round, then pitching her idea to Marcy Simon, an angel investor in New York. Simon was the first angel to cut Masri a check, and she helped rally other investors behind the idea -- leading to another $250,000 in funding and Perksy’s January 2018 launch. Within six months, that initial $500,000 in funding brought in $3 million in the pipeline.

Masri still thinks back to those VC rejections and the insecurity that accompanied them, but she has a new outlook now. She says if you’re second-guessing your company, remember the rejection may have nothing to do with your idea itself. Throughout the fundraising process, Masri doesn’t remember meeting with a single female venture capitalist. And even after her company’s seminal success, she still gets eyebrow raises from male investors when she talks about next steps.

“I think I made so many excuses for the VC industry, and it wasn’t until recently that I realized I shouldn’t have been making excuses for them,” says Masri. She says it’s not a black-and-white issue, that there are some great male venture capitalists, but the industry itself needs to be conscious of the issue and make way for change. “We’re all on the same team here,” she says. “I say what I say because I want the industry to be better.”

Related: How to Be a Confident Badass at Work (and Silence That Little Voice in Your Head)

Masri’s experience points to a much larger issue.

In 2017, only about 2 percent of the $85 billion raised in VC backing went to female-founded startups based in the U.S., according to data from research firm PitchBook. Women are also raising smaller rounds than men -- averages of $5 million and $12 million, respectively. Last year, the largest VC deal cut by a team of female founders was Moda Operandi’s $165 million Series G, contrasting starkly with the largest round of their male counterparts: WeWork’s Series G at $3 billion.

When it comes to black women founders, VC statistics are even bleaker. Black women raised only 0.0006 percent of the $424.7 billion in total tech venture funding raised since 2009, according to a study by digitalundivided, an organization, incubator and accelerator aiming to advance equity in tech and entrepreneurship. For black women who raised less than $1 million in 2017, the average funding raised was $42,000. Compare that to the average seed round for all startups in 2016: $1.14 million.

“The good news is there are two times more black women-led startups than there were when we originally did the report back in 2016,” says Darlene Gillard, chief community officer at digitalundivided. The number of black women who raised over $1 million in 2017 is two times that of the previous year. Still, she says, there’s much more work to be done.

Another key issue: Just 1 percent of all women-owned businesses use VC funding, according to a new report from EY and the Women’s Presidents Organization. “If there aren’t more who get it, fewer will seek it,” says Lisa Schiffman, global lead of EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women, a national competition and executive education program for women entrepreneurs. That idea doesn’t just affect today’s entrepreneurs: It could propagate in future generations of women. “If they don’t see that it’s possible, then they’re not going to go in that direction… [it] can place artificial limits on what they can accomplish,” says Schiffman.

Real equality may require an overhaul of the VC model as it stands today, introducing new options for looking at solid investments.

“The venture capital [model]... is inherently sort of a white male majority model,” says Nell Derick Debevoise, founder and CEO of Inspiring Capital, a consulting organization for purpose-driven businesses. She notes that, although it makes many startup ideas possible, it’s a style of investing that “white men with money have developed” centering on long-shot opportunities -- the majority of which likely won’t yield a profit. She believes that truly serving diverse founders and ideas will mean diversifying funding types as well.

“I have noticed a significant difference with female partners,” says Masri, who notes that women are the number-one market driving most consumer purchases. That translates to a potential blind spot for venture capitalists when it comes to more nontraditional business ideas.

“If I’m a black woman, I might have an incredible idea about hair weaves, but investors who are typically white and male are not going to understand that, even though it’s a multibillion-dollar industry and there’s opportunity there,” says Gillard.

If you’re looking to raise your own VC funding, know that the best fits are often ideas with a large market that will be quick to scale, and founders typically have between five and seven years to return investors’ money.

Here’s what women entrepreneurs should know before taking the first-round plunge.

Learn like an apprentice.

Seek out someone with a lot of fundraising experience who has nothing to do with your company. That way, they can serve as an objective third party. Have them teach you absolutely everything they know, including how to phrase your pitch and how to ask the kinds of questions venture capitalists may not want you to ask. Ask for guidance on how venture capitalists think, what they’ll be looking for and the criteria they use to evaluate a pitch. Read up on the process and terminology so you’ll know what they’re talking about. Then, talk to other women about their experiences. “I don’t think I had access to as many females to talk about fundraising [with] early on… I wish I did,” says Masri.

Put on your research hat.

Before you choose which VC funds to pursue, do your research. Pitching to every VC fund to see what sticks isn’t usually a good fundraising strategy, says Masri -- plus, it’s inefficient. Instead, focus on the investors who are likely to be interested in your idea.

For example, some venture capitalists have never invested in a company run by a black woman, says Gillard. One approach: “Don’t waste your time on the other hundred -- focus on the five that have actually invested in people like you,” says Gillard. Investing guidelines are usually included on a VC fund’s website, so you can see who’s on the team and the companies they’ve supported. You can also search online for VC funds investing in companies led by women or specifically black women.

Think bigger.

“I think males are judged on potential and females are judged on what they have done,” says Masri. “When you show up, you already have to prove yourself.” That’s why it’s important to be aware of a key difference in the way men and women tend to pitch ideas. While men often think best-case scenario and inflate projected revenue, women tend to be more realistic and modest in projections.

“Men are more comfortable painting the $1 billion exit picture when everyone in the room knows that’s a total long shot,” says Debevoise. Think big, and don’t be afraid to let your numbers reflect that confidence. “Every investor will undercut your projections by 30 to 50 percent,” says Debevoise. “If you come in realistically, they’ll haircut you by half.”

Get up close and personal with all the aspects of your business.

“Investors invest in people as much [as] -- if not more than -- they invest in the business,” says Schiffman. They want to put money behind a confident and strategic leader who knows what they mean to accomplish and what they need to do to make it happen. Nail down the specifics of the market for your product or service, how far the business can feasibly go (be optimistic), the steps you’ll take to get it there and why you and your team are the best people to make it happen.

You also need to be able to clearly lay out how the money will be used, approximate returns and which financial levers you’ll need to pull in order to grow your company. Sit down with your company’s numbers, financial statements and projections, have someone clarify any segments you don’t understand and don’t quit until you can clearly explain it all. “That’s what someone would expect if they’re going to give you five or 10 or 20 million dollars,” says Schiffman. “Owning it -- and not only owning the parts that you love, but owning the entire undertaking -- is really important.”

Know what you want, and make it very clear.

Show up knowing exactly what you want, be very clear about it and deliver a great pitch and projections. But avoid over-explaining or over-answering questions. Every extra sentence can provide more fodder for doubt and things to poke holes in, says Debevoise. Concisely and assertively lay out the industry problem, your solution, why it’s better than any other and why you predict such large returns.

Another key tip? Give the investors an ultimatum, says Masri. Don’t take them at their word if they tell you they’d like to “see how things progress” -- instead, ask them if they need more information (like metrics or customer testimonials) to make their decision. If not, ask them to give you a point-blank answer as to whether they’re in or out so you know whether to keep them on your list or remove them. “When I go in, I’m like, ‘I’m here to do fucking business; what’s the plan?’” says Masri. “I’m very clear about what I want.”

Educate yourself about other funding options.

VC funding isn’t the best match for every type of company -- in fact, the level of growth necessary in a relatively short period of time isn’t a match for most, says Debevoise. For example, though Starbucks is currently the world’s largest coffeehouse chain, it took much longer than seven years to build, so it likely wouldn’t fit a VC model.

Another potential route? Financial buyers -- e.g., VC funds, hedge funds and more -- primarily aim to realize a return on investment. But strategic buyers -- often an “investment arm” of a large company -- usually seek out acquisitions that will tie in with the existing company. If you’ve got a unique idea in your field, you can research whether a strategic buyer in your industry might be interested in acquiring your company.

Other options vary greatly depending on your product or service. Crowdfunding is one option, and in exchange for funding, you could offer individuals equity, rewards or the promise you’ll donate a percentage of the money to charity. There’s also bank financing, including small business loans -- especially if you’ve got a home or other assets to use as collateral. A friends and family round of funding could help get you off the ground, and angel investors are another option, especially since an increasing number don’t consider VC the default next step and could fund in exchange for equity or debt, says Debevoise. And finally, there’s plain old revenue from customers.

Richard Branson put it best: Customers come second, employees first. It's a philosophy that brings unexpected benefits to both the company and its clients.

11 min read

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

It’s one of those things that we all knew, but didn’t quite have enough data to paint a picture of: Most people are not happy at work. But, now we do, and the number is 85 percent. That’s how many people are dissatisfied with their jobs the world over, according to the "State of the Global Workplace" survey conducted by Gallup poll last year.

While this in itself might be a depressing number, it points to almost $7 trillion in lost productivity the world over every year! Unfortunately the bad news doesn’t stop there. The true cost of replacing employees can be twice their base salaries depending on their wage, role and experience. The cost of replacing high performers who often deliver 400 percent more in productivity than their average counterpart can be higher still.

In other words, the measures businesses use to engage employees and evaluate their performance are not working, or worse, they're backfiring.

Unfortunate, but totally understandable.

There are many reasons that may explain why this trend exists. Some companies either willingly or unwillingly instill not-so-best practices that can make employees not just unhappy but downright dejected.

Often companies don't communicate properly. Or, worse, they just assume everyone already knows what they are supposed to do. In a survey of 400 very large companies titled the “Cost of Poor Communications," it was discovered that poor communication was costing each company tens of millions of dollars.

Many companies do not take employee training seriously. Just having a rulebook rarely suffices to help employees understand the nuances of their job. An IBM study revealed that employees who do not feel they are developing in a company are 12 times more likely to leave it. Many times companies see employee training as an expense rather than investment and end up paying dearly in terms of low productivity and high turnover.

Other companies micromanage like crazy. Nobody likes someone (particularly a workplace supervisor) hovering over their shoulder all the time. And yet in a report by Career Addict, 79 percent respondents said they were being micromanaged and 69 percent had as a result considered switching companies. Contrary to what managers who micromanage believe, their methods actually motivate employees not to perform and to try and leave the company, while destroying teamwork and creating health problems.

Some managers literally track an employee's every movement. Now, it’s one thing to keep a record of productive activities for posterity, and it’s another to use employee GPS tracking apps to know when they have exited a vehicle, where they are going after office hours and surveilling their chats. While workplace surveillance is usually carried out in the name of productivity, it often creates even more stress and defeats its purpose.

Too many companies use interns to do the heavy lifting. Many people would rank this practice in the same category as kicking a puppy, but shortchanging interns is a surprisingly common practice in the startup world. Interns are promised nebulous, performance-based incentives including stock options that never materialize to squeeze every last bit of performance out of them for free. And let us not forget the cynical assertion that interns should really be paying their employers, since the latter is blessing them with knowledge and experience.

Dress codes might have made sense 20 years ago, but with freelancing and co-working culture on the rise, many employers including multibillion-dollar brands are giving up the suit and tie entirely and letting employees decide what they want to wear. On the other hand, many employers try clever ways of creating a middle ground -- even where there isn't one.

Related: What's the Difference Between Business Casual and Smart Casual? A Handy Guide on How to Dress.

Why you should be investing (heavily) in your employees.

While the issues mentioned (and those like them) are best avoided, companies need to go above and beyond to find what their employees are looking for and deliver on it. The best companies have always understood this, too. Richard Branson, for instance, famously stated that customers come second, while employees come first.

But there is a much deeper reason to investing in your employees than good feels. Investing in your employees is a great business opportunity.

It builds you a solid reputation in the marketplace. All companies want to attract the best possible talent over to their camp. But who in their right of mind would want to work with a company that treats its members as disposable assets?

Unless you are the owner of the company, you will want to work for an organization that promotes your own growth and values your opinion.

In fact, millennials today often quit their jobs because of lack of learning and growth opportunities. And since almost all of them are researching companies on sites like Glassdoor and LinkedIn before applying, having bad reviews on there won’t help you attract resumes.

Happy employees, even happier customers.

Engaged employee help you establish better relationship with your customers. Since your employees are the ones who are actually in contact with your customers, how they think and feel is actually a better representation of your company than all your marketing and advertising material ever could be.

Gallup in "State of American Workplace" reports that employees who are engaged are more likely to improve customer service and can result in 20 percent increase in sales.

Tempkin Group’s 2016 Employee Engagement Benchmark Study also shows that companies acing customer experience have one-and-a-half times as many engaged employees as those that are not so good at it.

Employee engagement will foster loyalty. Brand loyalty is all the rage today, with many companies focused on increasing customer lifetime values. But what about your employee lifetime value? Losing your employees can have heavy repercussions in terms retraining time, cost and lost skills.

By putting your employees first, you can help them relate with your organization’s goals and find a common ground. Doing so can engender trust and a feeling of mutual respect between the employer and the employee.

Altogether, it will make your organization a competitive powerhouse. Almost every brand today is data-driven, even if it is to a small degree. But making use of that data in a way that powers organizational growth depends on how engaged and active your employees are.

When employees are well trained, they will be better equipped to identify and exploit fleeting opportunities. That will in turn benefit the company.

Some ways to invest in your employees.

Every organization needs to find the best way to inculcate great relationships with their employees. So, there are many examples how the best companies out there are making sure their employees are on top of their respective priorities.

Google keeps it casual. While having a dress code is all very nice to promote homogeneity, we now know that people are happier when they are allowed to customize their workspaces. Google is a great example of how companies can keep it light and fun while still killing it, productively speaking.

The company offers everything from laundry facilities to places for naps, and creatively executed common areas as well. They also give free breakfast, lunch and dinner; health and dental benefits; and hybrid car subsidies to keep their employees happy.

Employees at Google are also allowed to spend 20 percent of their time pursuing special projects they feel are worth their time. In fact, many of their best products, such as GMail, Google Maps, Google Cardboard, Adsense and Google Talk, are products of this policy.

You don’t have to be a billion-dollar company to implement some of their methods. At the heart of Google’s policy lies their belief that every employee’s ideas can make a difference. TargetProcess, which was a small startup in 2013, decided to try their hand at Google’s 20 percent policy, which resulted in an incredible culture of innovation.

Listening is investing, and it pays dividends.

Listen to your employees the way Virgin does. Lecturing employees where the company is heading and what is expected of them is so passé, so top-down. Not only can involving employees in your companies larger, strategic decisions help them feel valued, but you can also get fresh ideas and perspectives.

Virgin is a great example of a company that listens to its employees. Virgin realizes that every person on the planet has the potential to come up with the next million-dollar idea. Some of them may well be within your ranks, and the only way to find out who is to let everyone share their ideas.

For instance, Virgin Trains asked their employees for suggestions on improving their Voyager products. Bethan Patfield, a customer service assistant, came up with one when she noticed that celebrity chef Bryn Williams of Odette’s was using their service regularly.

Patfield suggested that Williams might be asked to look into Voyager’s menu options. Many meetings later, the team came up with awesome menu options that were a big hit with their customers.

The lesson here is your employees have a lot of insight that can be used to improve the quality of service. Given a chance, they can help you make a better product or service.

SquareSpace's flat organizational structure enhances communications. Primarily suited to startups, a flat organizational structure is where there are fewer management levels between leadership and employees. This facilitates communication between everyone involved and allows ideas to flow easily.

Coupled with some really strong perks and benefits, including 100 percent health insurance coverage, relaxed workspaces, flexible vacations, catered meals, monthly celebrations and more, Squarespace has consistently secured itself a top spot in every best places to work list out there.

Maintaining a flat organizational hierarchy can get tricky as companies become larger. However, there are ways to maintain your culture while growing as a company. For example, you can consider harnessing the power of smaller, project-focused teams that are far more agile with faster velocity than big departments. Facebook and Microsoft are great examples here.

Challenge your employees.

Adobe is another popular mainstay in best workplaces surveys. The firm is known for its rather generous perks, holiday pay, medical insurance, retirement plans and education reimbursements. However, there’s a lot more they put into making sure their employees are happy and productive.

Adobe provides its employees with challenging projects, then follows up with all the support they need to meet them. Consequently, they routinely deliver fantastic products to the market.

At the heart of Adobe’s workplace culture lie four signal characteristics -- exceptional, genuine, innovative and involved. Adobe is very proud of its integrity, which is upheld by their senior management who ensure full, fair and accurate disclosure of information.

Finally, the company also celebrates their employee’s accomplishments by sharing their success stories on the Adobe Life blog. Doing so not only gives a huge boost to an employee’s pride, but also helps them share their ideas with fellow Adobites.

Henry Ford had once said, “The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave is not training them and having them stay.” In today’s data-driven business world, talent is widely regarded as the most important resource. The ability to find simple yet effective solutions to pressing problems is what segregates great brands from mediocre and failed ones.

Since it’s unrealistic to expect top-tier leaders to have the best solution for every single problem every single time, companies today must not only start investing in their employees but also make them an integral part of the decision-making process and growth story.

9 Tips to Create Highly Engaging Content

https://www.quicksprout.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/image1-7.png [ad_1]

Anyone can produce content.

But content without a purpose is not effective. You need to consider the goals of your content marketing strategy. Ask yourself what you want your audience to do when they consume your content.

Whatever that answer is, your content needs to be engaging if you want to accomplish those goals. What is engaging content?

Well, it all depends on whom you ask and how it’s measured. For me, engaging content is all about getting results, such as:

  • increase in traffic

  • clicks

  • opt-ins

  • conversions

  • sales

  • comments

  • likes

  • mentions

Any of these metrics can be used to measure engagement.

Here’s something else to keep in mind. If your content doesn’t engage your readers, they simply won’t consume and retain the information. This will end up being a big waste of your time, money, and resources.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying it’s easy to come up with great content.

If you’re currently putting out posts, images, and videos that are average at best, it’ll take some more effort on your part if you want to see some results.

But it’s worth it. If you put in the extra effort to focus on improving your content marketing strategy, it will ultimately help your business make more money.

Not sure where to start? That’s what I’m here for.

I’ve come up with this resource of the top 9 tips for producing content that engages your audience.

1. Be original

Today, it’s tough to produce content that’s 100% unique.

There is probably someone else out there who is talking about the same thing, took a similar photo, or conducted similar research. That’s okay.

The idea is to produce content that stands out. With so much competition, it’s no surprise that producing engaging content is the biggest challenge for marketers:

image1 7

How can you overcome this? Be original.

Yes, you can still blog about a topic that’s been previously discussed. But don’t write it the same way everyone else has. Add your unique voice and spin to the subject.

Share personal experiences – nobody else had them.

Often, marketers try to come up with the most cost-effective solution to content creation. They pay some writer with no experience to write blog posts at $20 per article.

Well, like anything else, you get what you pay for. You can’t expect this type of content to be original and engaging.

Write your content so that it’s unmistakably your own. Put your personality into everything you produce. In doing so, you’ll end up growing a loyal group of followers and readers.

Again, this takes more time and effort, but it’ll be easier for you to increase your engagement metrics this way.

2. Produce actionable content

I just talked about the goals of your marketing campaigns.

What do you want? If you don’t know the purpose of your content, the consumer won’t have any idea either.

You need to know what you want someone to do after they consume a piece of your content.

For example, let’s say you’re promoting a new product on your website. You decide to blog about it. This is a great idea, but that alone won’t get people to buy the product.

Your post needs to highlight the features and benefits, how it can be used, how you have used it, and how it can improve the lives of the consumers.

This primes the reader to make the purchase. Let’s look at an example of that.

This blog post from BuildFire talks about how to hire a developer to build your mobile app. But as a custom app building platform, the team wants its audience to use its software instead:

image6 7

This section of the blog post starts by questioning the need to hire a developer at all. It discusses some potential issues with that method and offers an alternative solution.

Then the company pitches its own service. The pitch is followed by a hyperlink that brings the reader to a landing page for sign-ups.

This is arguably the most important part of this post. Why?

You can’t assume your audience will read something, navigate to your ecommerce site, search for a product, then click on it and add it to their carts.

That’s way too many steps. They should be able to complete this action with one click from within the post, just like in the example above.

If your readers can buy something with just a click or two, they will be more likely to complete the action. Do you want readers to sign up for your email list? Give them the option to click to join.

Finding these buttons on your site shouldn’t be a scavenger hunt. The buttons need to be obvious so that your site visitors can complete the desired action.

3. Publish accurate information

If you’ve been reading my blogs for a while, you know how much I love to include statistics and research within my content.

I recommend you do the same.

But you need to be careful of the information you publish. Basically, anyone can put anything on the Internet today. It’s important that you recognize the quality and accuracy of the websites you’re sourcing.

You may come across a relevant statistic, but if it’s on some no-name blog and doesn’t include a data source, you can’t know for sure whether the information is accurate.

That’s why it’s best to source your information from authority sites only. In addition to making sure the source is reputable, make sure it’s recent.

Information changes at a rapid rate.

A statistic or study from ten years ago may not be relevant today. But if your content provides up to date and accurate info, people will be more inclined to engage with it.

Here’s another tip to keep in mind: don’t let your old content go to waste. Just because you published something in 2012 doesn’t mean you can’t refresh it with 2018 information.

Look at how HubSpot uses this strategy to keep its content as up to date as possible:

image7 6

First, they changed the title. This lets their readers know the post has been updated with new data.

But that’s not all it does. HubSpot even tells you the exact date when the team updated the post.

image2 7

It’s an effective strategy.

This shows everyone the website strives to publish accurate information, which readers find more engaging.

If you really want to wow your audience, you could conduct research yourself, producing your own study. This will help you stay original, which I discussed above.

Yes, this will be more difficult and time-consuming. But now you know for sure the results are accurate and 100% unique.

Even if someone else conducted a similar study, the results won’t be exactly the same, and yours will be more up to date.

4. Tell a story

While data is important, it’s easier for people to relate to stories than to naked facts.

That’s why we read books, watch movies, binge-watch television shows, and keep up with reality and celebrity news. We want to know what comes next in the story.

You can learn how to increase sales by mastering the art of storytelling.

Telling a story will help you connect with your audience. It can also improve your credibility on a subject.

For example, let’s say you’re writing a fitness blog. If you tell a story that happened during your personal certification training, your audience will realize you’re qualified and knowledgeable on the topic.

They are more likely to read what you have to say as opposed to reading content produced by someone who has never worked out a day in their life.

You want to share stories that stimulate an emotional response from the audience:

image5 7

The graphic above explains how our brains react when we have an emotional connection to a story.

Speak in a way that’s relatable to your audience. Try to evoke powerful emotions such as joy, fear, or sadness.

Just make sure your story advances your goal and encourages the reader to complete the action you want them to take.

5. Make your audience think

Being original is one thing. But being thought-provoking is another. It’s an art.

The idea behind thought-provoking content is that the reader can relate to what you’re saying. You don’t always need to talk about a concept in black and white terms.

Let the readers’ imaginations run wild in that grey area.

Ask questions with no definitive answers. Paint a picture with some abstract scenarios.

But make it relevant to current events, pop culture, and our daily lives. This will keep your audience hooked and help them engage with your content.

This type of strategy can also help stimulate discussions in the comments section of your content. As a result, people will keep coming back to your website to check in on the discussion.

Ultimately, this is great news for you in terms of your traffic and engagement metrics. Each visit increases the chances of a conversion.

6. Use visuals

I know I mostly talked about written content so far.

But your overall content marketing strategy is much bigger than that. Pictures and videos need to be incorporated into this strategy.

Take original photos. It’s easy to take and edit photos without hiring a professional.

Look at how visual elements are being incorporated into blog posts over the past four years:

image3 7

That’s because marketers recognize how much of an impact visual elements have on their successes.

You can also enhance your content by building infographics. As I said earlier, if you conduct your own research, you will have original content.

Infographics take this concept to the next level. Since people remember images more than text, they will be more likely to retain information if it’s in the form of a picture or graph.

Produce videos. The possibilities with video content are nearly endless. Here are a few of my favorite suggestions:

  • “how-to” videos

  • product demonstrations

  • entertainment

  • discussions

  • interviews

Add videos to your website, posts, email newsletters, and social media channels.

7. Master your headlines

Before your content can be consumed, it needs to be clicked on.

That’s why you need to focus your efforts on creating clickable headlines. Whether it’s on your website, social media channels, or organic search results pages, your headline will be the first thing people see.

If you’ve got boring headlines, people have no reason to click.

Just don’t give it all away with your headline. For example, if your headline says something like “Men eat more than women,” nobody will have a reason to read the article.

But if it intrigues them with a question which sex eats the most, it will pique the readers’ interest, and you’ll get more clicks.

Here’s a look at some of the top performing headlines by engagement metrics on Facebook:

image4 7

Use this as a reference when you’re crafting your own headlines.

8. Hook readers with your intro

Okay, so you’ve got some people who clicked on your headline. That’s great news.

However, this doesn’t mean they’ll read through all your content. In fact, research shows that 55% of your audience spends only up to 15 seconds reading your articles.

In short, they’re not actually reading it. They’re just skimming.

That’s why you need to learn how to write blog post introductions that make the rest of your post irresistible.

If you can hook the readers with your opening lines, they will be more likely to remain interested throughout the post.

This works in conjunction with your headline and CTA. All these elements should be working together toward your goal.

9. Mix up your content

Posts shouldn’t be all the same. That’s just boring.

Nobody wants to read a case study every day. Keep your audience on their toes to make sure they get excited with your content.

If one day you tell a story, the next day you talk about research. Your following post could be centered around a video.

Next, you could promote a product. Blog about recent events. Add a humorous or compelling spin to it.

Whatever you do, don’t let your content go stale.

Conclusion

Producing engaging content isn’t easy. That’s why businesses agree that it’s the most challenging aspect of their marketing campaigns.

But with some extra time and effort, you can figure out ways to create engaging content.

It’s all about being original and separating yourself from the crowd. Produce content that’s actionable.

All of your information needs to be accurate and up to date.

Tell stories to capture the attention of your readers. Make them think outside the box. Use visual elements to enhance your content.

Focus on getting clicks with your headlines and then keep your readers interested with the opening lines and introduction.

Don’t use only one of these strategies. Mix up your content to keep things interesting.

If you follow the 9 tips I’ve listed above, you’ll find it much easier to create highly engaging content.

Agency Framework: Developing Your Agency’s Mission Statement

https://upcity.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/agencymissionstatement.jpg [ad_1]

For your agency to thrive, it requires a well defined sense of purpose that clearly communicates to customers, investors and prospective employees why they should engage with you. All of this can be found in one neat package called a mission statement. Some of the most influential businesses in the world are instantly recognizable by their mission statements. Can you guess which famous brands claim ownership of these?

“To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.”

“To give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

If Starbucks and Facebook instantly entered your mind when you read these, then you are correct. Each of these takes the brand’s objectives, goals and values and condenses them down into one succinct statement. A mission statement is more than just a description of the services a brand offers, it’s a single expression of everything they are. Great mission statements are powerful, to the point, capture your brand positioning and set you apart from others in your industry.

The key to a powerful mission statement is balance. It should grab attention and compel the reader to want to know more, but it shouldn’t be over the top or read like a sales pitch – because that’s not what it is. In needs to short and succinct, but not so simple that misses the target entirely. You can jazz it up, but the primary message must be relatable. Furthermore, it needs to answer a few very basic questions about your brand.

Anyone that reads your agency’s mission statement should immediately know what audience your business is targeted to, what it is that you do, and how you excel and outshine the competition.

Before the internet became the meeting ground that it is, mission statements were generally longer and contained more elements. Today, there’s more of a need to be short and sweet with it. For starters, the average internet user doesn’t have much of attention span, so any mission statement posted on your website needs to be short enough to not lose their attention.

Secondly, more brands are choosing to leverage their mission statements for SEO purposes by stuffing them into meta descriptions, in which case every word counts. So, how can real life agencies construct powerful, effective mission statements that meet the needs of the digital landscape? We reached out to our top local agency partners to learn about their approach to mission statements and why theirs works.

Defining Your Target Audience

Your agency has a goal, and that is to solve problems and offer solutions to your customer’s needs. Before you can accomplish this, you first need to define who your target market is so that they can identify you as a resource when they need help. At the risk of sounding cliché, you shouldn’t consider the whole world to be your stage when crafting a mission statement. An effective mission statement really narrows in on the target.

For example, defining a geographical audience in your mission statement lends a feeling that your agency will understand the challenges and hurdles that local businesses face.

“RNO1 is a brand experience & digital design agency shaping meaningful ideas into memorable solutions. We’re West Coast Brandmakers.”

RNO1

Another way of targeting your audience is by identifying their uniqueness. What is it about their situation or need that makes them a good fit for your services?

“Connecting people with insurance problems to people with insurance solutions.”

Neilson Marketing Services

“Our primary mission is to help small to medium-sized companies scale their business, build their credibility, and make their presence felt online.”

Insignia SEO

“We provide SMEs the digital marketing expertise usually only found at large companies.”

Sagapixel SEO

Stating Your Purpose

Your purpose is really the nuts and bolts of your agency’s mission statement. It doesn’t matter how flashy or compelling your statement is, if it doesn’t convey what you do and the value you offer, then it doesn’t do the job. There’s a bit of a story telling craft to stating your purpose in a mission statement.

Mission statements don’t need to be too wordy. In fact, it’s better when they’re not. You want the reader to be able to reach in there, grab the intent and run with it. For businesses that want a mission statement that they can easily leverage for SEO purposes, a single line or two can work if the purpose of the agency is well defined.

“Grow our client’s business with marketing strategies that reduce the customer acquisition cost.”

Idael Diaz Media Group

“Our vision is to help local businesses across the US grow their company by improving their online visibility & image.”

AGI Marketing

Rising Above

Let’s be honest, nobody is interested in your stats or quarterly reports when they’re reading your mission statement. While certain points in your brand’s journey might call for a mission revision, the goal is to craft a static statement that stands the test of time. This includes telling your audience why your agency rises above using emotional charged wording that can carry you into the future.

“Local SEO Search, Inc. specializes in full service search engine optimization for business owners across Canada. Our mission is to partner with clients and provide the best Internet and digital marketing experience through the use of search engine optimization. We form a lifelong business relationship that builds through sustainable gains.”

Local SEO Search

“We take great pride in our relationships with people. We operate with the understanding that it’s all about being good to others in everything we do. We show this by delivering the best service possible to our partners. We hear what people say and take action based on what they need. Being good to people is a foundational part of our business and we will not compromise it for anything.”

97 Switch

Now that we’ve established what makes a compelling and powerful mission statement and why having one is crucial to your agency’s success, the next step is putting it all together and making the magic happen. There isn’t necessarily a magic formula for crafting your mission statement. It’s really all about considering what’s important for your brand.

A mission statement isn’t a marketing blurb to attract clients. The intent might be to inform clients, but it should also serve as a guide and provide direction for your in-house operations. Many businesses find that the best mission statements are born from cooperative brainstorming with fellow team members.

“Our mission statement was created via a cooperative model where we worked on it as a company. It was ratified by all employees to ensure that each employee has buy-in. We believe that a collective approach is better than a top-down approach. Our mission statement is based on the triple bottom line theory (people, planet, and profit). It is important to win on all fronts: making our clients more successful, being exceptional to our employees and fulfilling our social and community obligations. Shorting any of these is a mistake.”

SocialSEO

One of the key elements in defining your mission statement is discovering the unique value you provide. It’s easy to say that you’re the best at something, but that accomplishes nothing in communicating brand value to the audience. What about your purpose and mission makes you the best? Dig deep and discover where you differentiate from other agencies and leverage that as the core of your mission statement.

“We considered the quality of work we wanted to hold ourselves to, all while maintaining strong company integrity in that work. It’s very easy in the digital sphere to get people to pay for watered down marketing and make a living out of it, but we wanted to be better. We wanted to create campaigns that genuinely HELPED people and made a difference in their lives.”

Heroic Search

Mission Statements That Guide and Direct

A mission statement wears many hats. It’s a promise to your customers, but another equally important function is how it guides your company culture. Every member of your team should be able to read your agency’s mission statement and immediately understand the core goals and priorities of the operation. When things get hectic, and team members start to feel misguided, your mission statement should be a tool to guide daily operations and help everyone maintain their focus.

“We focus on delivering results for our clients plain and simple. Our culture is geared toward making an impact for our clients on every level.”

Shufe Media

“Since our mission statement is all about increasing the value of brands, it directly correlates to the quality of work. If the work done is “just good enough”, it won’t pass our quality check. It motivates everyone to put thought into the work process and do it right.”

Regex SEO

Displaying Your Mission Statement

Finally, once all the components of your mission statement have come together, the only thing left to do is display it. A common mistake that many agencies make is failing to think strategically about how to display and communicate their mission to the public.

Your mission statement makes you accountable, so visibility and transparency are key to earning trust and building a reputation. Savvy agencies strategically place their mission statements strategically on their websites. This instills trust and serves as a reminder of how their mission needs to guide and direct their external actions. Here’s how some of our local agency partners display theirs.

“Our website. Beneath our positioning statement. Why? Our goal is for our clients to know they matter first. So rather than speaking about ourselves in the statement we speak to the impact we have on the client and their business.”

Red Shark Digital

“Our mission statement is located in the “about us” section of our website as well as throughout our social media channels. As a company that is continuously growing in geographical service area, we are constantly introducing ourselves to new people. As new prospective clients visit our website for the first time, their visits to the “about us” page account for nearly 40% of our page traffic. So, we wanted to make sure it would remain visible for those looking to learn more about who we are.”

SunCity Advising

You don’t need to be a spinner of magic to take your agency’s story and condense it down into just a few words. You just need to have a real sense of who you are and why you’re committed to what you do. Your mission statement is your chance to set yourself apart, distinguish your service and create authority for your agency. When you’re one in a sea of many, it’s a well-crafted mission statement that will guide you towards being the best in your industry, today and into the future.

Why Online and Offline Real Estate are Always Great Investments

What is your favorite entrepreneur or celebrity success quote that really gets you going? Mine is short and simple — it’s “Get Shit Done!”.

I’m sure you have a favorite of your own. It might be super original, one that’s not well known, or might even be a common saying from a well-known celebrity or entrepreneur. No matter what it is, or who it’s from, I’m sure it’s super inspiring!

To help spread that inspiration and dedication to success, today we are going to look at 57 different success quotes from other top bloggers, entrepreneurs, marketers, and business owners from around. Not only will they be sharing what the quote is, but also why they love it and how it inspires them to find even more success in both life and business.

57 Entrepreneurs Share their Favorite Entrepreneur Success Quotes

Gina Horkey

One of my favorite motivational quotes is from Earl Nightingale, which says:

“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.”

I used that quote to fuel me through writing the first full draft of a fiction novel – while I never pursued bringing it to publication, writing an entire book felt like an accomplishment! Then later I used this same quote to encourage me as I started my virtual assistant business and blog.

This quote rings true in many facets of life – whether you’re trying to lose weight and get in shape, start a new business or pursue a passion like writing a novel.

Syed Balkhi

My favorite quote is: When someone tells you it can’t be done, it’s more a reflection of their limitations, NOT yours! The reason why I really love this message is that in our lives, we find tons of people who doubt your vision. This is especially worse when you’re an entrepreneur because often people don’t understand our way of thinking. My advice to all young entrepreneurs is to never let that slow you down. Keep working hard towards your mission.

Marko Saric

My favorites quotes are along the lines of the way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing and most overnight successes took a long time. I find them inspirational and valuable as I believe they speak the truth from my experience. Too many people think about big things, dream and talk about them but too few ever actually take any action towards achieving their goals. And the interesting fact is that majority of people that actually do take some action give up way too soon as they have too high expectations and don’t see any instant results and quick progress.

“Follow your fun.” Not sure who said it but this is the ultimate form of wisdom for any entrepreneur, whether online or offline. Too many folks get into the business game with their eyes on profits or sales or even fame. But those drivers vanish immediately because newbie entrepreneurs with these outside motivators soon learn that money and fame only flow in when you have followed your passion, when you studied and learned your niche inside out, and when you have created value and built meaningful friendships with top entrepreneurs in your niche. Following your fun is hands down the most important aspect of being successful with your venture because

Jon Dykstra

My favorite business quote is the Wall Street maxim “bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered”.

I think that quote is applicable to so many business situations beyond investing in stocks.

What it means is investors with a long term view make money whether a market is going up or down while speculators and people looking for big short term gains (i.e. shortcuts) lose money. Investors minimize risk while maximizing upside potential. The degree of risk is an important part of the equation. Pigs disregard risk, taking on too much hoping for a windfall. The pig in the maxim is a gambler.

Of course any business involves risk, but that risk can be considerably minimized if it’s a sound idea and properly executed with a long term outlook. On the flip side, shortcuts can work and work spectacularly well, but often don’t result in a sustainable business. Yes, there are always exceptions, but the risk simply isn’t worth it in the aggregate.

My favorite success quote is by Shiv Khera. He is an Indian author of self-help books and an activist for equality. He launched a movement against caste-based reservation in India. The quote is: “Your positive action combined with positive thinking results in success”.

I like it, because there is nothing more important in our life than feeling good and maintaining good emotional condition. This is how I define success: To feel good. And the best way to feel good is to reach to the best feeling though that you have an access to at this particular moment. After that, everything is easier. Your interpretation of the world is different. New clients are coming from all kinds of sources. Old clients are coming back to buy more. Miracles can happen when you stick to this principle.
Of course there is another way around. If you struggle on the positive, just do positive actions. It will affect your thoughts. Your thoughts affect your actions but your actions change your thoughts as well!

Quote: A Network give you Reach, but a Community gives you Power! Networks Connect… Communities Care. ~ Ted Rubin

A small, passionate community of like-minded people can often accomplish far more than a larger, less-connected group working on the same challenge. Building a dedicated community takes effort, but it’s one of the most effective ways to build your brand, your business, your home. The power of relationships scales up when you create opportunities for passionate people to connect.

So don’t get hung up on the size of your network. Instead, whether it’s around a cause, a topic of interest, or developing your next product or service… work on ways to connect that network into, and empower/enable, vibrant communities. Networks are just a series of nodes, communities supports each other, look out for each other, and have lifeblood. Don’t underestimate the power of the “collective.”

My favorite entrepreneurial quote is by Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in this world”. I think it is so vital for entrepreneurs and business owners to understand the great wisdom in this saying. As entrepreneurs, many of us too often chase the wrong things in life. I love following this quote because it serves as a constant reminder to me what really matters. When I leave this world, I want to create a legacy that will hopefully outlive me. I want to change the world and there is so many things in this world that can use some change. Finding a purpose and a passion for your life is extremely important and we as entrepreneurs have the complete ability to chase a dream of any size. This has been my favorite quote ever since I started my entrepreneurial journey at the age of 17 and it continues to guide me in my future endeavors.

Entrepreneur “Mike Harris” made a good comment about “filling the gap”. This is in response to how people respond to a challenge. This question is simple to answer. I know this quote as well as I know my own name. “Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint.” This is my favorite quote since it changed my life. I might not be blogging today if I hadn’t heard the quote.

To reflect: When I was a new blogger, I retained another blogger for a free consultation. I was frustrated and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. When she told me that blogging is a marathon, not a sprint, I knew what I was doing wrong. I wasn’t being patient enough for success. The truth: I wasn’t being patient at all. My reflection post 18 Ways You Can Have One of the Most Popular Blogs details my early struggles with patience in Tip #5.

Today I’m a blogging tips coach. Whether I’m offering blogging tips in writing or coaching one one one, I always tell people that life-changing tip. Be patient and let success find you. Unfortunately, too many bloggers aren’t patient and abandon their blogs. Hopefully, they’ll read this interview and realize that online success can indeed find them if they wait for it.

Andrew Lowen

A few years back, I had the pleasure of training under a less well-known entrepreneur named Jim Winkler. He is a C-level executive for Shop.com, and rose through the ranks as one of their top sales performers. During one particular training session, sitting aboard a yacht docked next to a mansion on the waters of Miami, Florida, he gave me the best business advice I have ever received.

The advice? “Do something.”

Simple in speech, easy in theory. But the lesson is more important than any lesson taught by the gurus I have seen speak and more valuable than any line I have ever read from a business book.

What does it mean? Simply this: Focus on result producing activities.

It is so easy to get caught up during the day with busywork. This work is “safe,” doesn’t have much risk, and doesn’t carry the possibility of failure or success (both equally frightening in their own ways). But that work isn’t what is going to keep you in business, and it is not going to get you any closer to your goals! Sure, answering e-mails is important, and so is answering your phone. But collecting money, ensuring you are serving your current clients with timely and top-level service, seeking customer feedback/reviews, and seeking new paying customers are things that are scary…

Checking your company’s social media accounts, doing your books, or straightening up your office might be something you need to do, but it is not what will make you successful in the end. As I look around, my office is an awful mess. Maybe I will pay someone to clean it for me with the money I earn from “doing something.”

My personal favorite is from Tony Hsieh and his book, Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose, and it’s:

“It’s important to constantly challenge and stretch yourself, and not be stuck in a job where you don’t feel like you are growing or learning.”“It’s important to constantly challenge and stretch yourself, and not be stuck in a job where you don’t feel like you are growing or learning.”

The quote serves as a core value and reminder to myself that growth and learning comes from new challengers. When things start to become easy, then I might become complacent, which is bad for my business and my customers. If I want stay ahead of the competition, then I need to always pursue growth and be constantly learning new skills.

Being the ultimate “blog ninja” that I am today, how could I choose a quote from anyone else besides the great Bruce Lee!

“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.” – Bruce Lee

This is one of my favorite quotes, and one to live by, as it allows one to be happy with themselves and whatever else they might be working on — such as a website, blog, or online business. Run your business the way you want, and take pride in it — and you will never have to ‘work’ a day in your life.

“Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom” – Jim Rohn

I challenge myself to become better and improve myself every single day. That means never stop learning and experimenting with new ways to grow my business.

For everyone, the day has 24 hours, but some people manage their time better. The difference consists in the way we focus on our priorities and how much we are willing to work to fulfill our dreams.

Being an entrepreneur is not easy, but it’s so much more rewarding than being an employee. I get to organize my time as I wish, to travel where I like, and I am free to move anywhere in the world, even for a longer term.

Focus and scale. I’ve heard this from my SEO friend, John Doherty but I guess, there are other entrepreneurs who said the exact quote/phrase online. What I really like about the statement is that it’s somewhat counter-intuitive. Most of the time, business owners wanted to scale their business too quickly, not realizing that they’re going too far away from their focus (whether that’s their core values, the main USP or their product/service or the main reason why started their own business at the first place). That being said, the statement, “focus and scale” – gives you a profound idea that as you scale your business, you should remind yourself of your entire focus – your “why”.

WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER.

I live by these words, in both my personal life and my business. It is so easy to waste your valuable time on things that don’t grow your business or fill you with joy. We live in a digital world where we have countless resources and tools at our fingertips that can help us to work less, earn more, and enjoy a better quality of life.

Being smart and strategic about where you invest your energy and effort (and always keeping your end goal in mind) will help you keep things in perspective. For example, why waste time invoicing your clients when you could use a free system that will send them automatically? Why waste an entire day struggling to create subpar graphics for your social media, when you could hire someone to do it and spend your day with paying clients instead? Think about it

I like this quote by Michael Jordan, it shows you that sometimes in business you need to fail and learn before you can succeed in the long term. All business is a learning process and we make mistakes. We learn from these mistakes and we are better business people as a result of the learning process.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

I once attended a Zig Ziglar performance. I call it a “performance” because it was so much more than a just a motivational speech. It was a full experience. This was probably the most successful motivational speaker ever, his career built on his previous success as a salesman. But he told us how his success story began:

“I was not an overwhelming success. I was not even a whelming success. But I did sell a few things. I sold my car, I sold my TV.”

While there are many inspirational and motivating quotes by famous entrepreneurs, one that stands out for me is by Conrad Hilton, where he quotes, “Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.”

I believe that in this competitive times, having an attitude of never ‘Quitting’ is extremely important no matter what our odds are, as this is what differentiates successful people from those who fail to make a mark. Also, having a positive and optimistic view of life, in general, is all important, as this, more often than not, translates into our work, allowing us to achieve the best in our chosen field.

My favorite quote isn’t directly related to business or entrepreneurship, but I think it’s something every entrepreneur should keep in mind if they want to be successful:

“Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.”

Over the years, I discovered that consistent small steps in one direction amount to greater results than occasional big jumps. But I find it hard stay focused while taking these small steps and not give into the temptation of instant gratification – checking my emails, my social media notifications, or even writing a blog post that I know won’t bring me any long-term benefits just for the sake of that great feeling of hitting “publish”.

Yet, when I remind myself that I need to choose between what I want now and what I want most, making the right choice becomes easier.

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” – Pele

It’s always annoyed me when I was told, or heard someone say, “You are lucky!”. Being in the world of business, I know there is some luck involved, but at the end of the day it all comes down to the amount of time and work you put into something. Sure, some of us may have had some luck along the way, but luck will only get you so far.

James McAllister

“Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.” – Jim Rohn

What you do when you are approached by a challenge says an immense amount about the type of person you are. I could not find the above quote to be more true.

I receive a lot of envy from the people around me – especially former friends who are now graduating college. There’s a lot of jealousy. A lot of hate. And I understand why – I am an easy target. Today my companies have partaken in over 100,000 transactions, I have new employees joining every month, and I have a lot of freedom over what I choose to do each day.

Despite it not being easy to run 3 companies, I’m faced with good problems rather than bad problems, and the future is bright. I’ve never been more excited than I am right now.

However, it hasn’t always been this way. While people see the success that’s come my way, what they didn’t notice was all that I gave up to get to this point. While my friends would go off campus to get lunch during high school, I would go to the computer lab and work. While others around me were out drinking and partying every weekend, I was at home, working until I’d pass out on my desk – or on the air mattress we kept in the office. While family took days off to celebrate holidays, I worked straight through them, so that one day I wouldn’t have to. And now while many around me end their education to begin the next chapters of their life, I spend more time than ever reading and learning – seeking continuous improvement of my skills and of my life.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, and what we choose to do with it is a matter of priorities. If you willing to make success and personal growth a priority in your life, then in time you will achieve it. Sadly, most people aren’t willing to do whatever it takes to achieve extraordinary levels of success.

Leonardo da Vinci I love this quote because, like da Vinci, I am hopelessly curious about so many — too many — things . (Unlike da Vinci, I’m no genius. Just pathologically curious.) But there’s a downside to this wonderfully sponge-like brain of mine: it gets distracted into paralysis way too often. My favorite quote is from the American business tycoon John D. Rockefeller.

“Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.”

I saved this quote way back in highschool and have used it for every career move and business decision I’ve made over the past decade. I think sometimes people get too comfortable in their own little bubble, but it’s important to remember that sometimes risks have great rewards. You only live once, so you don’t want to miss out!

This quote is also great for those that work with clients. As many know, there are definitely good clients and bad clients. The bad clients usually end up taking up 90% of your time. Don’t be afraid to say no to the bad ones and only focus on the good ones. This can be one of the best decisions you ever make, not to mention a lot less stressful.

Whatever you do, don’t be afraid to take some risks. I’ve learned more through failing than I’ve ever learned through succeeding.

Back in January 2015, Elon Musk did an AMA on Reddit titled I am Elon Musk, CEO/CTO of a rocket company, AMA! In general, the community asked good questions, including some that were very technical. One of the most upvoted question, with 4163 points was “What daily habit do you believe has the largest positive impact on your life?” Elon responded, “Showering.”

You can call this a joke, or a tongue-in-cheek answer to a serious question, but I love it for two reasons. 1. Self care is important! And 2. Richard Branson has said, “to launch a business means successfully solving problems” which I have turned into the personal maxim of “Sell the problem you solve”.

So many bloggers and solopreneurs get too caught up in the product or service they are offering. Their approach is mainly focused on why they are the best at what they do, rather than focusing on the client’s needs, frustrations, and challenges.

People don’t buy products and services. They buy the advantages that purchasing a certain service brings. Successful marketing and sales strategies are based on finding the problems that customers have and are ready to solve and then offering the solution for those problems.

Find the client’s pain points and then focus on the solution to that pain.

I’m not sure that I have a favorite business/entrepreneur success quote, but I like this one:

“Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” – Winston Churchill

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I just saw The Darkest Hour at the movies, and recently finished The Crown on Netflix, but Winston Churchill is such an intriguing person. He sticks to his guns and doesn’t let other people boss him around.

After spending a lot of time working on a recent article for 99Designs about failure, I’ve been thinking a lot about how this concept affects my own entrepreneurial journey. As Churchill hints at in the aforementioned quote, you can either let it rule you or use it as your motivation to move forward and try something else. I try to always strive for the latter situation!

I assume many people might be quoting an inspirational quote (which I love) so I will go another route that is a bit more on the tactical side of things.

“Do not build your content house on rented land” is a quote from “The Godfather of Content Marketing”, Joe Pulizzi, that I reference pretty much every week.

This was Joe’s way of saying and warning people that you must have a focus on building your own audiences on platforms that you own (i.e. Email Subscribers, Your blog, Print Subscribers etc…) vs. on platforms that you don’t own (i.e. Social Media Platforms). The reason being is because at any point in time, these platforms can change and you might be affected greatly in a negative way. Just look at what happened with Facebook’s organic reach (only 1-3% of your followers see your organic posts) or worse, look at what happened to Twitters’ Vine (completely went away). Joe is not saying to not utilize these platforms or grow your following on them, but you shouldn’t rely on these platforms and should instead look to drive people to your subscriber lists and the blog on your site. Bottom line, at the end of the day, your goals should be to have full concentration on growing your content house on the land that you own and you will guard yourself against any big changes that are completely out of your control.

Here is a link to a podcast Joe produced where he talks about this in great detail.

My favorite business/entrepreneur/success quote is “The difference between successful people and other is how long they spend feeling sorry for themselves”. This quote is by Barbara Corcoran who is a female entrepreneur and is currently on Shark Tank as an investor. I like it because I think it’s true. A lot of people who have experienced failure bask in their misery, pass the blame to others and make excuses. I think this is avoidance of the root cause of the failure. People refuse to be introspective and accept their failures as their own. Until you’re able to do this, you’ll never be able to address the root cause, and you’ll never be successful. The first step in all success stories is to experience a failure. The second step is to take accountability for it.

I really like this quote by Warren Buffet because it applies so much to online marketing:

Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

I’ve read a few books where this quote is torn apart and analyzed, but its also ok to look at this quote in its most simplistic form. When we talk about growing online businesses we need to think more about the value of them. How are you truly helping people? I see so many people throwing up websites with regurgitated information just repeating the same information re-written with new grammar and it is sad seeing people ask “why am I not making any money.” Same with products if you have an eCommerce website that is essentially the same products as every other website, how is it different? How are you helping people? Competing with online retailers like Amazon.com or Alibaba is getting harder and harder each and every year. The only hope for most smaller retailers is to create small niche communities that stand out from the rest.

It’s a philosophical quote, that ironically has very little to do with Business and more to do with the mental health of the business owner. The quote by Lucius Annaeus Seneca and also known simply as Seneca is about practicing poverty.

He says, “Set aside a certain number of days, during which you shall be content with the scantiest and cheapest fare, with course and rough dress, saying to yourself the while: ‘Is this the condition that I feared?’”

By practising poverty, you begin to eliminate its hold on you and you can free yourself from the fear of financial ruin. In 2018, in order to run a tight ship and remain lean and agile, this will be a must!

I really love this quote. For me, it epitomises my feelings about business and marketing. My SEO agency, Bowler Hat, is all self-funded. I have no financial backing and no investors. Every step forward has been based on lessons from failure. It is this experience that makes me a good marketer and a careful business owner. Equally, marketing is a game of micro failures, learn what works, learn what does not work, remove wasted effort. Strive for constant improvement. True success only comes from being able to handle the knocks and keep moving forward.

This is perfectly explained by another favourite of mine, this time a fictional character:

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” – Rocky Balboa

I’m going to quote myself: “Marketing isn’t about what you DO, it’s about who you ARE.” I came to this observation back in 2006 as social media was starting out and it was confirmed to me as more and more traditional brands became victims of having their marketing messages challenged by actual experiences by customers i.e. United Airlines issues with passengers, the BP oil spill and even prominent individuals Tweeting their thoughts which go against the work of their expensive marketing and PR folks. This determined inventor said to them “I have NOT failed a thousand times; I have discovered 1,000 ways not to invent the light bulb!”. I always come back to the guy who took all of our imaginations and design aspirations by storm – Apple’s Steve Jobs. His quote easily changed my mindset of the world and my life with the simple quote:

“Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is – everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.”

The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That’s maybe the most important thing. It’s to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.

That quote gives YOU the power to take hold of your own life. No one is going to do it for you, but you can do it, for yourself – and people have. Just having the proof that a human is capable of this amount of change should make you never again hesitate to do your best every single day to make something great, or move towards that goal you have been working towards your whole life.

“You’re responsible for everything in your life.” (Probably said by 99% of successful people in history.) You made a lot of sales because you built a good product and marketed it well. You’re busy because you took on too many commitments. You’re healthy because you prioritized eating right, good exercise, sleeping… over unhealthy indulgences or comfort. Sure, there are outside forces that affect your life—sometimes significantly. But if you hold on to an attitude of looking at what’s in your life realistically and taking responsibility for it, you can get far. If you blame others, cosmic injustice, bad luck, genetics, or anything else for negative things, then you’ll only be successful if you get unbelievably lucky. Don’t waste your time relying on things you can’t control. And the only thing you can control is your decisions right now.

My favorite business success quote changes depending on what I feel needs to be improved. Right now, my favorite quote comes from Jeff Bezos and his 2016 letter to shareholders.

He says this about making risky business decisions: “If you’re good at course correcting, being wrong may be less costly than you think, whereas being slow is going to be expensive for sure.”

I feel like over the last year or so we’ve slowed progress because we’re trying to be perfect with everything. We’re trying to not make the wrong decision. Maybe we’re making decisions that are a little better, but I don’t feel the trade-off (where we move slower) is worth it. I’d rather move faster and make slightly more mistakes because, as Jeff Bezos says, “it’s often less costly to course correct”.

Don’t build links, build relationships – Rand Fishkin, Moz

This is one of the success mantras that I have been following throughout my digital marketing days. It is not about the links that you create, but it is about the relationships that you are building. Of course, you can create any number of links, but expanding and forming new relationships should be your focus. Relationships easily lead to networking. Creating a chain of relationships will carry your business goals far and wide, which is the major aim of our businesses. So, when you create links to ensure that you are connecting with genuine businesses that are in fact popular with a handsome number of rankings over the search engines as this will further fuel your chances of winning the rat race.

Your aim must be to satisfy your customers as the customer is your king and engagement is the queen. Only when your customers connect, engagement happens and your business flourishes.

Quote: “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing” – Walt Disney

Even if we aren’t sure about what we should do, at some point we have to try something, see what the results are. Then address the problems, adjust our approach, then try it again as often as it’s necessary. But there is just one condition: we have to stop talking. Nothing happens when we’re just talking about our plans for the future, nothing changes! All we need is to make the first step and turn the words into efforts.

Once we’ve stopped talking and started doing, we may find ourselves surprised at how much we can accomplish and how powerful we are. The first results wouldn’t be as high as you expected, but that’s the way our lives go.

Analyze what you did and what happened recently, then do something different next time, but never stop doing. Grab some piece of paper and make a list of things you’ve spent too much time on just thinking about them instead of acting. Try to write it down every month to check the progress. But remember to follow this strategy not only in business-related part of your life. To enjoy the full effect, you need to apply it to your private, home or social matters, etc.
Prepare for disasters and other things that may change your attitude. I know that it’s easy to say, but just be patient – it’ll be much easier to quit talking and start doing!

“Negative results are just what I want. They’re just as valuable to me as positive results. I can never find the thing that does the job best until I find the ones that don’t.” – Thomas Edison

We are firm believers in experimentation, as trying out new things will help us grow more as a company. We are aware of the many challenges that we encounter during this long process, but in the end, we all see it as one big learning experience no matter the outcome.

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” -Mike Tyson

I think this quote highlights the failure many businesses have in planning and adjusting when their plan doesn’t go exactly as initially hoped. Many things can change between planning, execution, and completion. You need to ability to adapt and pivot, should the unplanned appear (and it frequently does). We see plenty of business failures happen when organizations don’t or can’t adjust their plan with the ever-changing market. Any business that fails to be able to do so, ends up like the opponent on the receiving end of a Mike Tyson right-hook.

My favorite quote about success is an old one attributed to Thomas Edison. Although the exact wording is in dispute, the story goes that when asked by a reporter about the incredible difficulties he faced when finding a suitable filament for the light bulb, Edison responded, “I have not failed once. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”

This quote reveals the importance of learning from “failures” and reframing them as successes. Failure is an inevitable part of life, and the most important thing is to grow from it. If you can reframe “I failed at this” to “I succeeded in learning not to do this”, it will keep you motivated on your way to where you want to go and discourage you from giving up.

My favourite business quote is mine:

Entrepreneurship is a mindset, a lifestyle. It is not something you take upon. It is something you become.

I love this quote and consider it as a very crucial integration within my mind in order to succeed in business. I see so many business owners take up entrepreneurship as a physical state. They see it as a position (like that of a CEO of a company) – being a CEO of a company doesn’t necessarily make you an entrepreneur.

To me, its all about the mindset. You need to change your mindset and your lifestyle. You become an entrepreneur by changing your mindset and lifestyle accordingly. It is not a job or a position you take upon. It is something you become! This clarity about entrepreneurship is what drives me in the right direction.

My favorite quote is:

“Every master was once a beginner. Every pro was once an amateur.” – Robin

When I feel like I am a beginner and have no idea what to do. I remember this quote. It’s so powerful if one can realize the deep meaning of it. Every master has gone through up and down in their struggling time. They were once a beginner just like us. They kept working hard and at the end became master. Keeping this quote in mind when starting anything new will push you to limits and one day you will become the master of what you do. When someone tells me how hard it is to start something, I share this quote with them to boost their confident that one day they’ll also become expert.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”

This closely relates to another favorite of mine, by Albert Einstein: “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”

Both of these quotes are found in How to Achieve Entrepreneurial Excellence – 3 Ways, alongside many more awesome quotes.

I like these quotes because the focus is on the person, not the business. After all, a business can earn a truckload of money, but if you are not happy with yourself and the person you are, then what’s the point of having money? Money can’t buy health. It can’t buy happiness. It can’t cure your disease (if you have Cancer, for example). It can only enhance your life IF YOU ARE ALREADY A GOOD PERSON.

I’ve been through a lot in my life and have suffered many hardships along with several traumas. Many people know I was raped. Many know I used to be a drug addict and a prostitute. Some know that I nearly died (and had an epiphany as a result). Some know that I used to have suicidal thoughts on a constant basis… and that I learned to overcome them (which is why I wrote FROM NOPE TO HOPE).

I can honestly say NOW that I am happy.

I now use motivational quotes as ONE source of staying positive on a regular basis. I also use positive affirmations.

All I can say now is this: If Emerson and Einstein were still alive, they would both be proud of the businesswoman I’ve become!

Mandy McEwen

I have so many favorite quotes on business and entrepreneurship, but at this point in my entrepreneurial journey, I would have to say this quote by Rockefeller is at the top of my list of favorites:

I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature. – John D. Rockefeller

Perseverance is why I’m sitting here at one of my favorite weekend getaway spots in Northern California, overlooking a beautiful lake as I type this response to you. It is the sole reason why I’ve been able to follow my dreams and pursue my passions for nearly a decade. It is how I launched numerous digital products in the last year (something I’ve been wanting to do for years) while still growing my agency client base. And perseverance will be the reason I meet my growth goals this year of helping hundreds of startup agencies and entrepreneurs achieve massive success.

So if there is 1 word that sums up my entrepreneurial journey, it’s perseverance.

I’ve compiled the SEO quotes which have helped me hustle in online marketing every single day but here are my latest favorites for:

Business

“The job on top is a lonely one. But if you want to lead, you have to be one of the troops too.” – Liew Mun Leong, Changi Airport Group Chairman

I love this quote because I personally acknowledge how hard it is to be on the top of everything for a startup business. As the decision maker, there will be point of time that it’s all left to your hands. Making business decisions for a startup is crucial. You will need to consider everything and everyone. I feel that if you want to be a good leader, you don’t want to hoard every decision you make inside the company. I personally think that the best way to make things work for your business is to listen to what your staffs say to you: the difficulties they encounter daily, their strategies on how to be efficient and effective on what they do, and even their suggestions on how to make things better.

Entrepreneurship

“Ideas are s**t, execution is the game.” – Gary Vaynerchuk

You can consume all the best planning and strategy on how to make money and become a successful entrepreneur but it will be futile unless you work it out in actual and do the dirty sh*t.

Success

Embrace the suck.” – David Goggins

We all want to be successful but most people wanted to get it the easy way. There is no easy way. If it’s 4 in the morning and you still don’t want to get up, you get up. You don’t want to do the dishes at home, you do the dishes. You don’t want to clean the house, you clean the house. You don’t want to study, you study. Bottom line, you do something that suck everyday in your life. It’s a matter of time until you make it your lifestyle. That’s how you grow.

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” —Napoleon Hill

Our minds are more powerful than we realize. This quote reminds me to continuously visualize my success so I can achieve that success in my life. If I doubt my ability to accomplish a goal, I either stop pursuing that goal or change my mindset until I believe in my ability to accomplish that goal. I only pursue the goals I conceive and believe because that will allow me to achieve. I strengthen my mindset by continuous education so I can continue pursuing and accomplishing big goals.

“Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re going to fail in everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, my dear?” – Marilyn Monroe

I could see the reflection of this quote in a business motivation book that I read. Colonel Saunders, the founder of the well-known, global fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), had a tough time getting started. Colonel Saunders is always praised by his friends and family for his tasty friend chicken. Upon retirement, Colonel Saunders wrote a business plan based on establishing a fried chicken outlet. He was turned down by his bank. He went to other potential investors, he was turned down again and again. This really determined pensioner did not let the rejection and doors slammed on his face stop him, he kept knocking on door of potential investors. Eventually someone said yes! He got the funding he needed to start his first KFC outlet.
